Dr Braden Meikeljohn Joins the Southside Eye Centre Team

Welcome Dr. Braden Meiklejohn to Southside Eye Centre

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Braden Meiklejohn has joined Southside Eye Centre, bringing with him a wealth of expertise and a distinguished career in ophthalmology. Dr. Meiklejohn is an accomplished ophthalmic surgeon specialising in cataract, pterygium, and all forms of glaucoma surgery and laser treatments. His practice includes advanced surgical procedures with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) devices, such as iStent and Hydrus implants.
Dr. Meiklejohn is currently advancing his specialisation through a Fellowship in glaucoma surgery at the prestigious Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. This pursuit underscores his commitment to staying at the forefront of ophthalmic advancements to provide his patients with the highest quality care.
Dr. Meiklejohn’s medical journey began at the University of Queensland, where he earned his medical degree in 2012. He completed his residency at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and underwent comprehensive ophthalmology training in Queensland. In 2021, he served as the Senior Registrar at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and held the position of Senior Medical Officer in Ophthalmology at the Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS), where he also mentored numerous Eye Surgeon trainees.
Before embarking on his medical career, Dr. Meiklejohn worked as an optometrist in his hometown of Toowoomba for three years, following the completion of his undergraduate degree with First Class Honours from the Queensland University of Technology in 2005. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Ophthalmic Science from the University of Sydney. His contributions to the field extend beyond clinical practice, as he is an active Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and has published articles in several international journals.
As an Eye Surgeon, Dr. Meiklejohn is dedicated to offering personalised and up-to-date care for his patients’ eye conditions. He is also a passionate mentor, committed to guiding and shaping the future generation of eye surgeons.
Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Meiklejohn enjoys a well-rounded life, indulging in sporadic games of squash, participating in trivia events, and exploring new wineries.
